Agiorgitiko 100%. complex aroma of red fruits, honey, chocolate, dry nuts, cedar, vanilla and spices, characterizes it. It is aged in oak barrels for 44 months and 3 years in the bottles. It can be aged for a decade or more. Bright red color with violet hues and fruity nose, with no major tensions, starring spices especially pepper and all spice, in a background of fresh red fruit, with touches of ink. Velvety mouth sense, fruity and balanced with nice acidity and long fresh aftertaste.

Agiorgitiko
Agiorgitiko is the quiet power grape of the Greek vineyard and of yet unexplored potential. It is not only the PDO grape of Nemea, the largest region with such status but has the fame that spreads throughout Greece and so does its cultivation. It is also the most marketed grape domestically, to the extent that one can find agents selling wines of Nemea anywhere in Greece, even in the heart of other dedicated wine-producing regions. It performs well in hot climates and gives a variety of styles. Thick-skinned of variable size, depending on the clone and with around 8 clones available commercially today. It is potentially high yielding, late budding and late ripening.

Papaioannou was founded by Thanasis Papaioannou, widely considered one of the pioneers of modern Nemea, at a time in the 1980s when Agiorgitiko was mostly sold off anonymously in bulk. He was among the first in the region to argue that Nemea wine should reflect its specific variety and vineyard site rather than being made to a generic style, farming organically from early on. The estate now spans 57 hectares across several distinct plots around Ancient Nemea — including a vineyard at the foot of the ruined Temple of Zeus — with George Papaioannou, the third generation, now running the winery alongside his father. Agiorgitiko remains the core of the range, though the estate also grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Roditis and Assyrtiko, among others.
