Amorgion is a family distillery from the small Cycladic island of Amorgos, founded by Antonis Vekris in the early 2000s and based in Katapola. The starting point was a local remedy known as psimeni raki (or vrastari) — grape-pomace raki boiled with honey, cinnamon and cloves, traditionally used on the island both to soothe a sore throat and to welcome guests, including at the island's Monastery of Panagia Chozoviotissa. Amorgion built its range around that tradition, sweetening its grape distillate with honey and a mix of eight local herbs rather than sugar, and later extended the same approach to other Amorgos ingredients such as prickly pear.
