Description

In 1939, Panagiotis Hahalis aromatised vermouth with herbs from Chios island and transferred the distillery and its recipe from Chios to Patras which is famous for its muscat grape varieties. Today, from the cooperation of the Tentoura Castro distillery, A. Oikonomakos and M.Iliopoulos, VERMOOD emerges, in which the old recipe is perfected and acquires a modern mood. The sweetness is natural, coming from a fine semi-sweet white wine (Muscat or“Moshato”) aromatised with Artemisia, bergamot and a variety of Greek herbs. It contains Greek honey that boosts its special flavour and is free from added colouring or sugar.Εnjoy it slightly chilled (12-13ºC) as an aperitif, straight, on the rocks or in the most unique cocktails.

Muscat Blanc

Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains is a white wine grape of Greek origin that is a member of the Muscat family of Vitis vinifera. Its name comes from its characteristic small berry size and tight clusters. It is known under a variety of local names such as Moscato Bianco, Muscat Blanc, Muscat Canelli, Muscat de Frontignan, Muscat de Lunel, Muscat d’Alsace, Muskateller, Moscatel de Grano Menudo, Moscatel rosé and Sárgamuskotály. While technically a white grape, there are strains of Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains vines that produce berries that are pink or reddish-brown. The same vine could potentially produce berries of one colour one year and a different colour the next. Variants, where the differing grape colour is stable, are typically classified as separate grape varieties Muscat Rouge à Petit Grains for red skin colour and Muscat Rose à Petit Grains for pink skin colour.

Producer

Castro is produced by the Hahalis family distillery, one of the most established names in Patras. The business began in the 19th century on the island of Chios — famous for its mastic — before Panagiotis Hahalis moved the operation, and its recipes, to Patras in 1939. Today the distillery sits on the hills outside the city in Romanos, an area prized for the quality of its water, and produces ouzo, mastiha, raisin brandy and a range of liqueurs and vermouths, with particular care given to its traditional spiced Tentoura recipe.
