ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Grape

Assyrtiko
Assyrtiko is by far Greece’s most renowned white grape variety, associated most famously with the volcanic island of Santorini in the Aegean Sea. Following its notable success, it is now grown successfully all over Greece and beyond in Clare Valley, Australia, South Africa and California, being the first Greek grape to become international. It has developed a reputation as being a versatile grape variety, producing wines in a multitude of styles, from fresh, mineral white wines to oaked, worth keeping ones and from bold complex reds to rıch matured dessert wines, such as Vinsanto.

Producer

Kontozisis
Kontozisis Vineyards are located at the foothills of Mount Agrafa, one of the most steep mountain ranges of the country near Karditsa, a rural town in the region of Thessaly. They are a family-owned winery, run by young generation partners Andreas Kontozisis and Aphrodite Tousia and working on 11 hectares of vineyards. The winery has been designed to handle the fruits of a perfectly sustainable viticultural practice. They have achieved organic certification in 1991, being one of the first wine producers in Greece to obtain such certification and they are committed to sustainability, both in the vineyards and the cellar. They are passionate about working with indigenous grape varieties, such as Roditis, Malagousia and Limniona. For Limniona, they have developed a proprietary vine-tending technique, in order to get as much concentration as possible from the variety’s large grapes. All grapes are hand harvested and yields are kept very low to maximize quality. No presses and no commercial yeasts are used during winemaking.
