Avgoustiatis
Avgoustiatis is a little known red grape variety found originally around the Ionian islands (more notably on Zakynthos) and the western part of the Peloponnese peninsula, from where it has made its way to a further two Aegean islands about 15 years ago. Following this purposeful and creative migration of the grape, we now have distinguished bottlings coming from these two most recent plantings on the islands of Tinos and Samos. The variety ripens relatively early in the growing season and harvested typically in August, where the name of the grape comes from the grape of August.
Producer
Grampsas
The Grampsas Winery is located in the semi-mountainous village of Lagopodo at the foot of Mount Vrachionas in Zakynthos (Zante), one of the largest Ionian islands across from Kefalonia.Childhood memories of grape harvest scenes smell and meaningful conviviality has led the two brothers, Christos and Tassos, to create a modern winery within the Estate they grew up in 2011. Their aim is to showcase the unexplored wealth of local varieties, such as Goustolidi and Avgoustiatis and to restore the island’s reputation as a place with great vinicultural potential on the wine map of Greece. Loyal to the tradition and keeping up to date with winemaking developments, they aim to offer a unique terroir-focusing experience to wine lovers.
