ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Grape

Muscat of Alexandria

Muscat of Alexandria is an ancient grape variety used both for table grapes and wine production. Despite its long history, the variety remains rather undistinguished and lies in the shadow of its finer, more aromatic cousin Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains. Nevertheless, there are a handful of wine regions that make high-quality wines from Muscat of Alexandria, most often sweet or fortified styles.

Limnio

Limnio is an important Greek grape variety that has been used in red wine production for more than 2000 years. It has been mentioned by many Greek poets, including Aristotle and Homer. The grape is believed to have originated in the Aegean Island of Limnos, though, surprisingly, it is barely grown there anymore. In the 21st Century, Limnio is more at home on the Halkidiki Peninsula in Greek Macedonia and Rapsani in Thessalia. Limnio is a hardy grape that ripens late and has strong drought resistance.

Producer

Garalis

Winemaker Manolis Garalis is a third generation wine grower on the volcanic island Lemnos in the North Aegean sea, who established his own winery in 2006. With his family - wife and two children - he works dedicated and specialized with the two local grapes of the island, Muscat of Alexandria and Limnio. The grapes are grown certified organic in volcanic soils.
